What It Means to Have A List Targeted Email Marketing for Anyone

If you have a website and a desire to make money, you should be engaging in targeted email marketing — it’s that simple. Every single major corporation in the country (and most of the medium-sized ones) engage in targeted email marketing on one level or another. You can tell using one simple trick: if they ask for your email address — at all — they’re using targeted email marketing.

So what is targeted email marketing? Simple – it’s collecting email addresses of people that you know are interested in what you’re selling, and then emailing them stuff that makes them more inclined to buy your stuff. If you’re a giant corporation like Wal*Mart, you send them your weekly coupons or something. If you’re a small business, you can send out coupons, but you’re likely to be even more successful by sending out emails about your latest new product or service.

The trick is to build the list. It’s a numbers game — if 0.5% of people respond to your email, and you have 200 people on your list, that’s one reply. If you have 20,000 people on your list, that’s one hundred replies. Having a large list of people that you can send emails out to efficiently means that you make more money off of each email you send out.

There are two ways to obtain a list: you can purchase one or you can build one. For many major companies that have a broad spectrum of products (like Wal*Mart), it’s easier to purchase a list of a hundred million email addresses, because almost everyone can find something in their store that they want to buy. For business with a very narrow product stream — say, Lea & Perrins — it’s smarter to build a list, because of a hundred million email addresses on Wal*Mart’s list, maybe only one million actually use Worcestershire sauce on a regular basis, so they’re not getting their money’s worth.

For the vast majority of small businesses, then, building your own list is the right path to take. Find something that you can offer your clients. Build a webpage where you can give it to them for free in exchange for their email address. Get an SEO company to do some small business SEO for that page. If you use an opt-in system, you have their permission to market to them until they opt out — which for most people is never. Time to bring the profits!

  2. Are there people who are having success by using email harvesting softwares for email marketing? I want to buy an email spider but they are very expensive. So I want to be sure of their effectiveness before I buy. Also advise me on which email harvesting software is best to buy.

  3. I am in a general marketing class and I have to do a B2B Marketing Project. Here is what the professor gave us:

    The Task
An international power transformer manufacturing company is interested in entering the American market. The company is conducting a preliminary market survey for Power Distribution Transformers in the U.S. market. As a marketing manager, you have been given the responsibility to conduct the study using secondary sources. Based on your analysis the company will decide its next strategy. The company expects you to provide the following information. You must provide enough information in each section so that company can formulate its strategy. Each section must be reported separately. This is a typical B2B marketing project.

1.Demand and Market: Estimate the demand for power distribution transformers in the U.S. A starting point of this analysis could be to determine the NAICS product or industry category code (is NAICS 33531 too broad?) and then search for information on the web and other sources. Describe target market for power distribution transformers and estimate its size (number and money value) and growth. It is possible that you may be able to get a directory/list of the buying companies with addresses and contact information. If you get such information provide it in the Appendix.
2.Market Segmentation: The study may call for a segmentation of the market. Describe how you would segment the market. Define the characteristics of each segment. Possible bases for segmentation may be as follows: type of institution (e.g., residential, retail or industrial market), voltage, value, price, type of transformers (e.g., dry vs. liquid/oil), and usage. Explain how segmentation may help your company in strategy formulation. Be as specific as possible. Your segmentation may call for a possible positioning strategy for different types of transformers. If applicable suggest a positioning strategy.
3.Competition: The industry requires high level of investment because of the value and the size of the product. Competition may be oligopolistic in nature, i.e., only a few companies dominate the market. With globalization, it is changing and the industry is becoming perfectly competitive. Be as detailed as possible in explaining competition.
4.Marketing Mix: Determine the marketing mix for the company. Explain each of the four Ps. Discuss product design and attribute, pricing, promotion and distribution. If needed, suggest separate marketing mix for each segment identified. Your positioning strategy may require separate marketing mix for each segment. Since this is a B2B project the characteristics and the delivery of the mix could be different from the consumer market.
5.Marketing Environment: Explain how the environment affects the marketing of the product. Specifically, identify those forces and factors that may directly affect the demand or the marketing of the product. Consider economic, demographic, technological, legal/political and social/cultural factors affecting the industry. Discuss how each of them affects the market.

I have NO idea where to start, what to do, anything. PLEASE, if someone could help direct me in the right direction I would be grateful.

  10. I have a customer list from my online business that is 20,000 strong with duplicates deleted. Unfortunatly my site has never offered a “join our mailing list” and now I have a list of 20,000 customers. I’d like to start sending out regular customer specials but I dont’ know if I can do this. I’d like to use iContact.com to do it.

I receive regular emails from companies that I buy from all the time. I’ll buy something from company a and within a week i’m getting a newsletter or a deal of the day type of thing. Always with an “unsubscribe” option. I received one today from a very reputable company saying “you are receiving this because we have had a business relationship in the past”….

    Here’s my 2 questions:

    1. Can I market to my 20,000 customers simply because I’ve sold to them in the past?

    2. If no to question 1, can I send an email to all 20,000 asking them if they’d like to receive emails from my company. If yes, click here if no, you’ll not hear from me again.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Aaron

  12. I am looking for the best SEO company for small business. I don’t want one of the major SEO companies that charge $100 dollars an hour or more. I’m looking for more of a small business like company that has already been in business but isn’t charging huge prices. Please don’t reply with “just google search it” or “heres a top ten list”. I’m looking for someone that has purchased services from the company they suggest and knows that they do good work.

  20. I’m trying to rack my head around how a small local business like say a hairdresser or dentist will have SEO in the post Penguin environment. I mean, how relevant will content marketing going to be for your local dentist? I keep on hearing that after Penguin you have to have killer content that everyone what’s to share with everyone else to rank in SERPs. But I mean, what’s “killer content” for a local dentist and who goes around sharing their local dentist’s content anyway? How much social media engagement for a local dentist should you actually expect? Let’s say I’m going to get a root-canal, the last thing I can imagine myself doing is going on the dentists blog and liking or sharing their content.

It just doesn’t seem realistic for small local businesses or am I missing something?

  21. I run a service business in a given area. 26. A friend and I came up with an idea to start a small shop, online and if it did well maybe move it into a local shop. We’re 16 and have our parents full support and we’re both pretty responsible. I was wondering how much it would cost to start an online shop, it would sell clothing mostly and few other things. Also, what website builders would best suit this and any other hints and tips.

  27. Never thought this would happen to me. I’m so annoyed.. I hate when people have people sending spam from their e-mail accounts and have no knowledge of it, and now I’ve been victimized. Anyway, apparently this happened at 4 am this morning. Someone sent out a bunch of links to everyone in my contact list. So my question is, when someone does get your password and whatnot to do this (first of all, HOW do they get the password.. keylogger? and WHY me?) Is this all they’re using it for? Just to send out spam? Or are they actually searching through all of my personal e-mails? I changed my password, but I’d really like to know what their full purpose is..

  28. I am producing an advertising company and am confused on one specific subject – email blacklisting. My confusion is the following:

We are going to be hosting a range of websites. Each website will have the capacity to send e-mail newsletters from their pointed out domain-name. I’m checking out a blacklist service. However, my concern is – because all the hostnames come from my server IP, why would I examine the sites hostname rather of simply my IP? Does this make good sense at all? So, in summation, my concern is – do blacklist services check my IP address, or the hostname that it’s being submitted from? How particularly do blacklists work? Likewise, are there any free services offered?

    Thanks!

  29. I have a business idea to set up an online marketing/SEO company in Melbourne. I wanted to get some feedback more along the technical side of things.

The idea is for me to do the business development and then outsource or contract the actual SEO to someone else. I’m trying to work out if the idea would work.

I know it differs between industries, but lets say I had $200-$300 AUD per month for a freelancer or contractor to look after the SEO for clients, what kind of measurable results could they expect to see?

However, I read somewhere that it’s not illegal to send unsolicited emails to a business, but it is to send to consumers.

Is this true? Is there anything I can do to at least limit the spam?
